Minicoy Islands Hosts the Lakshadweep Tourism

 

The lakshadweep archipelago has 10 inhabited islands.Since they are tiny (the entire land area is just 32 sq km) visits are restricted.Apart from the airstrip at agatti,Indian tourists may only visit bangaram,Kalpeni,Kadmat,Kavaratti and Minicoy,while foreigners are restricted to Bangaram,Kadmat and (as of 2009)Minicoy.

Lakshadweep means a hundred thousand islands in Malyalam. Lakshadweep in reality is a cluster of 36 islands spread in 32 square kilometers area. Located 220-240 km away from the Malabar Coast of Kerala, Lakshadweep has recently developed as a tourist spot. The islands are linked to mainland ships and passengers and Agatti and Bangaram islands can be reached by Air. The temperatures here are quiet moderate with an average of 32 degrees in the months of April and May.

Getting There:- All visitors need an entry permit,available from Lakshadweep Tourism office in kochi.By AIR INDIA and Kingfisher fly to Agatti from Kochi.One way fares cost approx Rs 3500 to Rs 7500.
